1.3.6    Find Out How to Drive With A Trailer Attached

If you are doing the driving, read up on, or ask about towing a loaded trailer with overall length of about 25 feet and weighing about 1,000 pounds.

I had not ever driven a car towing a trailer, and for the trip to the workshop location, my neighbor drove the vehicle.  What I’ve learned since is that it is towing is not all that difficult, as long as you remember that your combined vehicle is now about 2.5 car lengths, and that you need about twice the stopping distance that you would without the load.  No panic stops, please!  Also, don’t try to take too tight a turn with speed.  Backing the trailer is a skill that must be learned with practice; so don’t get into a spot where you need to back up until after you’ve had the opportunity to practice.
