June 30, 2001 To: Lightning Fleet 50 Greetings All -- About a year ago I started on a real adventure by making an offer on a used Lightning Sailboat – Hull 10745 – that had been put on the market by a long-time Fleet 50 member, Doc Hulburt. This boat, built by Jack Helms, Columbia SC, in 1968, has a fiberglass hull, wooden seats and trim, a rectangular aluminum mast, and wooden spars. At the time I asked
about the availability of a checklist of things to do to get the boat ready
to sail. For sure such lists existed, but I never really found any. So, now that the project is done, here is a draft of such a checklist, based on my experience with the project. This list contains things that I did do, as well as things that I might have done, but didn't do. This list is not complete, but it contains everything that I now remember about what was needed. Can you check it out and let me know what to add? Many Thanks, David Thompson Lightning
