Acquire and Install the Right Size Ball
It's best to find a towing vehicle that already has the right sized ball -- changing balls is difficult, requiring wrenches that can loosen a tightly torqued nut that is probably also corroded in place.
Hitch
balls are readily available at auto parts stores and also at U-Haul
outlets. Removing a ball already
attached to a hitch bar can be very difficult – they are installed using a
torque wrench set to 120 – 150 ft. pounds, and then they sit there for years, accumulating
dirt and corrosion that make them nearly impossible to remove, especially with
the kinds of wrenches most homeowners have in their toolboxes.
